Music Matinee: The Key of C and Dan Berquist
The Key of C has been playing in SaddleBrooke and the surrounding area for approximately 6 years. Current players are Colleen Halverson, a snowbird from Oregon, and Cathy Cowley, a snowbird from Washington state. They play electronic accordions and a wide variety of music to include country, bluegrass, folk music, old time songs, and dance music.
They play at assisted living facilities, farmer’s markets, private parties, Oktoberfest, Christmas parties, and at the annual SaddleBrooke Golf Cart parade. They are regular performers at the International Accordion Celebration in Leavenworth, Washington as well as other accordion events in Oregon and Washington.
Dan Berquist graduated from the U of Minnesota-Duluth, with a degree in Music Education-Piano. He taught music education in Minnesota and Wisconsin public schools for three years and played in piano bars and dance bands. Dan was the very first performer for Senior Village Music Matinees in 2023.
Dan’s specialty is performing medleys and mashups — the combining of different styles and types of music into one musical piece. The result is a twisting back and forth of the competing melodies that the listener can identify.
