Music Matinee: Sonoran Singers

April 14, 2025 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

The Sonoran Singers are a three-part harmony choral group consisting of diverse women from SaddleBrooke One and Two. Their common interest is a passion for singing and making people happy. The chorus sings standards, patriotic, popular and seasonal songs for their own enjoyment and for sharing with folks in the greater Tucson area, primarily at locations serving the elderly.

The chorus started with a trio of Sally Horn, now president emeritus, JoAnn McHugh and Susan Gustafson. However, the actual start came about when the women decided to line up and sing a song for the men at a Unit 14 function. They made quite an impression because two days later Sally received a call from one of the homeowners suggesting that a chorus should be started within the unit. Sally produced a flier which attracted about ten ladies who met for the first time at JoAnn’s home where there was a piano.  They rehearsed with music brought by anyone who had singing history. They grew slowly and after several years opened to all SaddleBrooke women.

Currently our director is the very talented Cora Peters who comes with much choral directing experience and leads the group beautifully making every moment a fun learning experience. Sonoran Singers presently has 31 members consisting of its director, accompanist and vocalists – sopranos, second sopranos and altos.
